ASYV is a self-sustaining, independent, special project of The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. Inc. (JDC)'s non-sectarian International Development Program. Since its inception in 1914, JDC has been sponsoring programs worldwide which encompass disaster relief and reconstruction, medical support and health initiatives, support for vulnerable groups including disadvantaged children, training for local organizations, education, and employment initiatives. JDC utilizes its global reach, access to professional expertise, and proven implementation experience to develop innovative program models that focus on sustainability and capacity building. JDC has been a presence in Rwanda since the 1994 genocide when it first registered there as a NGO, and JDC program experts based in Israel, New York, Ethiopia, and Rome are supporting ASYV by providing expertise and guidance on the region, playing a significant role in its programmatic development.
