The Power of Leadership

By Izere Kayiranga Macrine, Vice President of Student Government

Izere Kayiranga Macrine

From a young age, I was captivated by the power of leadership. Growing up, I noticed that many individuals in my community were indifferent to the different behaviours around them, allowing negativity and chaos to go unchecked. This lack of guidance stirred something within me—I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to be the kind of leader who inspired others—not through authority, but through positive influence and genuine care.

At the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village (ASYV), I have had the incredible opportunity to bring this vision to life as Vice President of Student Government. My role is not about making decisions from the top, but about connecting with my peers, supporting them, and ensuring that everyone feels heard and valued.

Whether it’s helping a fellow student with a challenge or guiding a team through a tough project, I have learned that true leadership is not about recognition and titles or about power and control. It’s about the difference you make in someone else’s life. It’s about giving others the tools to achieve their goals and showing them that they too have the power to impact the world positively. The best leaders are the ones who help others shine.

As I look ahead, I am more committed than ever to continue this journey of influencing and helping others one positive action at a time. Leadership is a gift, and I am proud to share it with the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village.
