Home to our kitchen, dining hall, and library, the Edmond J Safra Community Center is perhaps the busiest location in the Village,
In the kitchen, our incredible staff cook three meals a day for 650 people using heat produced by wood-burning fires. Since electricity is a scarce commodity in Rwanda, we cannot depend on it and thus rely on wood-burning stoves and ovens.
The Community Center also includes the dining hall, where kids and staff join to share meals consisting mostly of rice, potatoes and beans.
In addition to meals, the Community Center hosts celebrations including birthdays and sporting events. The Center is also a favorite studying spot of many students. On Saturdays, students practice early morning yoga on the Center's outdoor porch as an alternative to the weekly mucaka mucaka morning run.
