The equestrian community suffered a tragic loss this past winter when our friend and fellow competitor, Anne Heyman, suffered a fatal fall from her horse while competing in Florida. She was only 52 years old. It was only after her death that we learned about her remarkable humanitarian work. Anne has so inspired us by her example that we are dedicating ourselves to continue her legacy. Anne had many passions: her family, her horses, and the Agahozo-

Shalom Youth Village. Anne and her husband, Seth Merrin, were responsible for building a youth village in Rwanda for children who were orphaned during and after the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsis.

Within Agahozo-Shalom's supportive and structured living, learning and healing community, the 'rhythm of life' is being restored to the children with the ultimate goal of equipping these young people who have lived through great trauma to become healthy, self-sufficient and engaged in rebuilding their nation. The Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village is modeled after Israeli youth villages that took in children orphaned by the Holocaust. The Village opened in December 2008, and has since reached full capacity with 500 kids.   An additional 240 graduates hold ASYV diplomas.

Anne was the instrumental force in envisioning, cultivating and creating this Village. It is a symbol of hope for a better future.

This evening represents our hope to continue Anne’s dream to change lives, a country, even the world.

Thank you for joining us by helping to continue these efforts for these children and many others.
