Visit the village

Located one hour outside of Kigali in the midst of tranquil rolling hills, The Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village (ASYV) welcomes individuals, groups, and organizations to visit the Village and experience development in action. ASYV thrives on the commitment and compassion shown by our visitors, and we encourage those who support our work to witness the positive change happening in Rwanda. ASYV offers site tours, day experiences, and overnight stays. 

Site Tour: 

All visits include a comprehensive tour of our unique community that details the history and philosophy of the Village. Highlights include visiting a family home, the Edmond J Safra Community Center, the farm, the Liquidnet Family High School, and various other education facilities including the Art and Music Center and the Gelfand Family Science Center. Tours last between one and three hours and can be customized based on a visitor’s area of interest. Visitors also have the opportunity to meet our kids and experience a glimpse of daily life at Agahozo-Shalom. Tour rates are $25 per person and $15 for Nationals and visitors under 25. Day Experiences: 

Visitors are welcome to spend the day with us in the Village to get a more in-depth experience at ASYV. Visitors can join us to learn more about our history and philosophy, share a meal with our students, and volunteer in one of our after-school enrichment programs. Day Experience rates are $35 per person and $25 for Nationals and visitors under 25. Rwandan Francs are welcome. Overnight Stays: 

To truly experience what it’s like to be a part of the ASYV family, visitors and groups can stay in one of our on-site guesthouses for the evening. Visitors will catch a glimpse of daily life for an ASYV student by participating in activities, interacting with our incredible youth, and being part of a student family. For accommodation rates and availability, please contact 


Please note that Agahozo-Shalom operates within the framework of the Rwandan academic calendar. While we will make every effort to accommodate your request, please be aware that our students have three school breaks between terms, during which time they are not at ASYV. 

Pack for a Purpose: 

Our 500+ students receive everything from toothpaste to health insurance. The Village graciously welcomes in-kind donations to support the needs of our youth. If you wish to bring items to donate to the Village, please check with us prior to your visit to determine what our current needs are.

Visa Information:

Effective November 1, 2014, Rwanda requires that all U.S. citizens possess a visa at the time they request entry into Rwanda. A visa valid for 30 days for the purpose of tourism can be purchased for $30 upon arrival at Kigali International Airport or at Rwanda’s land borders. Accepted forms of payment include U.S. dollars printed after 2006 and credit cards issued by Visa. Agahozo-Shalom offers 7-10 day service-learning trips for various groups and institutions. Designed for groups of 14-18 people, Service-Learning trip participants learn about the development of Agahozo-Shalom as a model for post-conflict reconciliation. Participants also learn the history and culture of Rwanda while integrating into the ASYV lifestyle and connecting with the students.
