Members of the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village's Student Government have proven that distance can't stop them from fulfilling their important work of supporting the student body.

Last month, ASYV responded to a government mandate to close all schools. Our students returned to their home communities on March 16th, and on March 21st, a shelter-in-place order restricted all students and staff to their homes.

Through phone calls, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp groups, our Student Government ministers have focused on finding ways to connect with their ASYV brothers and sisters to ensure their health and safety.

The ministers are working diligently to keep ASYV staff informed about students facing food insecurity and other risks. The ministers are also helping their peers mitigate the spread of COVID-19 by sharing handwashing tutorials on social media. With passion and determination, the 2019 - 2020 Student Government continues to stand by their peers and seek solutions to the problems they face even in these most challenging of circumstances.

Student Government representatives share tips for proper handwashing. From left to right: Patrick (Minister of Foreign Affairs 2019 - 2020), Deborah (President 2019 - 2020), and Safari (Minister of Culture and Sports 2019 - 2020).

Tuesday, May 5, 2020 is #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving and unity. Help us to care for the students of the Agahozo-Shalom family as we weather the COVID-19 crisis. To learn more about our needs and how you can support our students, visit fundraise.asyv.org/GTNow.
