We offer high school, college, and adult groups the chance to get to know Rwanda and the Village in a personal and meaningful way through ASYV’s Service Learning Trips.
What is a Service Learning Trip?
An immersive visit to Rwanda and the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village! Through experiential education and reflection, participants engage in a meaningful exchange with students, staff, and peers, and learn about Rwanda’s history and culture. In turn, Service Learning participants cultivate an understanding of and commitment to global citizenship and a deeper awareness of our place in the wider world. Participants witness how Rwandans have changed their country's narrative and return home inspired to bring all they’ve learned to their own communities.
During the Trip, You Can
Gain a deeper awareness of yourself and the world around you through the ASYV staff-facilitated curriculum designed to foster dialogue and reflection.
Learn how a country rebuilds after mass atrocity and how organizations like ASYV serve as a model of resilience.
Explore Rwanda’s history with visits to 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi memorial sites.
Immerse yourself at ASYV, where you will join our Village family for enrichment programs, evening gatherings called Family Time, and more.
Visit cultural sites including the Nyamirambo Women’s Center, Envision Media Arts Collection, and Kimironko Market.
Customize your itinerary with additional guided excursions throughout Rwanda.

Each group will also benefit our kids! As a core component of the service learning experience, groups commit to fundraising $5,000 to support the Village in honor of their trip. ASYV provides a fundraising page and comprehensive resources to support the group’s efforts.
